British number two Heather Watson dropped the Tianjin Open – her first WTA years to Rebecca Peterson.
24, world number 59 Peterson, won 6-4 to maintain her second WTA title.
Watson dropped in both places but was pegged back both times, with Peterson winning in 1 hour 38 minutes.
The match was played inside in the end after a five-hour rain delay.
Watsons form this week means the 27-year-old is certain to scale back within the worlds best 100 if the new rankings are published.
This was the very first time the Briton had lost WTA final, winning her previous three at Osaka in 2012, Hobart at 2015 and Monterrey at 2016.
After the game, Watson said:Im am quite happy on courtroom today and I am really enjoying my match . Im looking forward to seeing what is to come.
