Soccer should apply punishments to supporters of racism, says Gianni Infantino, world governing body Fifa’s president.
Sunday’s game between Fiorentina and Atalanta was halted after reports of chanting.
In England, lovers who participate in stereotypical behavior face stadium bans.
“You can not have racism in society or in football,” explained Infantino. “In Italy, the problem hasn’t improved.”
The Brazilian wing-back Dalbert of fiorentina told the referee the Serie A game, which ended 2-2, was temporarily suspended and he had been the target of racist chanting.
A statement was read out over the public address system and the game continued.
Last week, Cagliari were rid of chanting towards Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku at a Serie A match.
That was the third time Cagliari were researched because of alleged racist abuse within the past two decades. Cases involved the Italy, Moise Kean forwards today and France midfielder Blaise Matuidi, Kean’s afterward Juventus team-mate – although no other action was taken on each occasion.
“Racism is combated with schooling, condemnation and discussion,” additional Infantino.
“You will need to recognize those responsible and toss them out of their stadiums. You Require, as in England, the certainty of the punishment. You can not be afraid to condemn racists, we will need to fight them till they stop.”
