As he fights for his life following their departure in 25, boxer Charles Conwell has composed an emotional letter to his injured competitor Patrick Day.
Day, 27, is in a coma ina very critical illness after enduring a severe brain injury.
He had been taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after a 10th-round knockout from the super-welterweight fight.
I never meant this to happen to youpersonally, all I wanted to do was to win, composed Days American compatriot Conwell, 21.
When I could take it back, then I would. No-one deserves this to happen to them.
Conwell submitted a link with the to the correspondence on social websites.
He explained this could be the final time he talked on the matter since it wasa sensitive topic to Days relatives members and friends, the game of boxing.
I replay the fight again and again in my mind thinking what if this happened and why did it happen for you, said Conwell.
I can not stop thinking about it all myself. I lose many tears because I could imagine my family and friends would believe and prayed for you a lot of times.
I find you anywhere you go and all I hear will be amazing things about you.
I thought of quitting boxing but I know that is not exactly what youd want.
I know that youre a fighter at heart, and so I chose not to, and also to struggle and win a domain because that is what you wanted and thats what I want so I will use you as inspiration daily and be sure I leave it all in the ring every moment.
He signs off with #ChampPatrickDay. With compassion. Charles Conwell.
Days trainer Joe Higgins replied:Thanks for the kind words. our relationship is unique patrick was born across the road from me.
Hed have needed you to keep. Im am rooting for you to attain your dream, the one hed.
I too am distraught because I feel responsible but do realize there is no fault. Remain strong and please dont believe we blame you.
