The San Francisco Giants have yet another month to get things together and go to an extended jog. That run will need to come after getting close since they’re unexpectedly seven games back of a wildcard. Rather than selling in the deadline, Madison Bumgarner was maintained by the Giants and made a decision to give a move to the postseason.

They are ten games back. The year with Manny Machado in San Diego is a flop. There will be pressure with each season during his lengthy contract over the Padres.

Bumgarner will soon likely be to get a new contract for next year, so it is definitely going to be interesting to see what he needs. Bumgarner wasn’t obviously traded by the Giants. It after he stayed here, he ends up back in San Francisco. This team was never a lock to visit the postseason this year without him.

The Padres have struggled, against Bumgarner in matchups, like most teams. They are hitting just .194 at 155 at-bats versus Bumgarner. He needs to be in a position Friday night to outpitch Lamet inside this competition. Lamet enters San Francisco having an ERA of both 5.06 along with also 1.38 WHIP in his previous three contests.
